We are one of only a few chimney sweeping companies with their own pressure / integrity testing machine! Using this state of the art equipment enables us to ascertain the integrity of the flue and give a definite answer as whether or not the chimney needs relining. The equipment used for this test is the DP23 unit, which is manufactured in Germany by Wohler.

The alternative method which other companies tent to use in the UK is the sealed smoke test, this means that 5 different people can carry out the same test with 5 different results. With a pressure testing machine, this cannot happen!

When must I get my chimney pressure tested?
1. If you are changing fuel types, from gas to solid or oil.
2. If you are reopening an existing flue.
3. Every new build chimney or relined chimney.
4. If you are installing a stove without a liner.

Why pressure test a chimney?
The primary reason is, to ensure that the chimney is not leaking poisonous fumes into other areas of the building. The secondary reason is, the fact that relining a chimney may be very costly and not always necessary, especially if you are installing a stove.
Also the chimneys updraft may be badly affected by a leaking flue, it will become less efficient causing back smoking problems or creosote to accumulate on its linings which can lead to a chimney fire.
